UPCOMING SHOWS

I have a busy weekend ahead!

Friday, May 3 I will be drumming with Terminal Union once again...and in my neighborhood!  We will be at 50 West Brewery Co. on Wooster Pike with hometown heroes The Tillers!  It's gonna be a killer show indeed.  I'm also excited to announce that one of my originals might make it into the bands song lineup...pretty excited!

Saturday, May 4 I will start out the day in the studio with The Klaberheads.  We are recording another album for this year consisting of mostly modern style songs...rather than our traditional German fare. The band might be travelling to New Braunfels, Texas in November for the Wurstfest!  Ha ha (insert punny joke here).  After the session it's off to Marty's Hops & Vines to play some pan with the Queen City Silver Stars!  Here is a short video I made to promote the event:
Monday, May 6  I am a proud Hamiltonian from Hamilton, OH and I will be playing solo acoustic at Wings on Brookwood in Hamilton.....I've spent a lot of my life at this restaurant from working to hangin out...it's kinda a part of me...and so are the people that surround it. Kinda nervous about this one actually!

A WEEK IN REVIEW

So far this year I have been very fortunate to play with some fantastic musicians...and this past week has been no exception!  I had the opportunity to be a part of two songwriter nights which included many great writers from around the city...so I was excited that my songs were included.  The weekend ended with me jamming with The Scotty Anderson Band.

TUESDAY - March 26

Dusty Bryant and I have been getting together recently to write songs and conquer the world.  I have known Dusty since the tennis courts of junior high school, and we've been creating music together ever since.  He joined me at the Knotty Pine for their Musicians Showcase hosted by James Funk.  Our friends Shoot Out The Lights did an awesome acoustic set...a slight departure from their usual rockin show.  I also had the pleasure of hearing Daniel Bayer from My Brother The Bear...great songwriter, performer and bass drum thumper.  I first saw Daniel at the 2012 Whispering Beard Festival...I was walking across the grassy field and his performance literally stopped me in my tracks.  The great thing that catches you about his songs is the melody...he can offer his audience crafted lyrical lines that really stick with you and are hard to forget (not that you
would want to).  I did jam with him backstage after that festival show but i'll be honest...I don't remember that moment too clearly.  I will blame Gentleman's Jack.

FRIDAY - March 29

This was the gig that I had been looking forward to for months.  Songwriters Night at The Crow's Nest.  It was "in the round" which meant all the musicians sat on stage and traded songs back and forth...good times.   I was joined by Mark Utley (from Magnolia Mountain), Billy Alletzhauser (from The Hiders) and
Daniel Bayer (from My Brother The Bear)...some heavy hitters from the Cincinnati music scene.  I gained courage from PBR and Jameson.  It was a night filled with melodic hooks, gritty stories, heart felt and passionate performances and whatever it is that I do.

SATURDAY - March 30

I've played with some great guitar players throughout my drumming life...but what the hell?  Scotty Anderson was just amazing...unbelievable...and more of a local celebrity than I thought!  I got the call last week from piano/organ player Carey Owens.  Carey is not only my motorcycle riding buddy but also a band mate from a few years ago.  He's been playing with the Scotty Anderson Band for a few months and their regular drummer couldn't make this one...lucky me.   Not knowing what to expect...I set up my kit and prepared for an adventure. As each song came I would whisper to Carey.."what's the beat on this one?"  He would look in the air confused and say "uh..um...it's like.." he would then wave his hands in the air, trying to imitate a drummer but looking more like a monkey being electrocuted.  After that he would say "oh..you'll be fine".. and then count the song off.  Needless to say I needed to be on point so I stayed away from the whiskey on this gig.  I had fantastic time though...locked in the Jim Miles (bass player)...helped Scotty take his solos to the stratosphere (not that he needed my help).. and got to play with a great friend again!  I love this life.

VIDEO - TERMINAL UNION

Here is some footage of Terminal Union at Northside Tavern last Tuesday.  It was a great night...the band is starting to lock in...feels good!  The song is called "I Feel You" and it is written by David Faul.  Very cool and unique tune!  (on a side note...Dave will be playing with Dusty Bryant and myself this coming Sunday Feb. 24 at the Southgate House Revival Lounge)

NORTHWEST INDIANA

I traveled up to northwest Indiana last week and was able to hit a few open mic nights to satisfy my restless musical soul.  My first night was in Griffith, IN at a place called Set 'Em Up...it is a small bowling alley with  a lounge attached to it.  It was recommended to me by a gentleman in the one of the local music stores...he said "it's good people who play some great music.."  It was true!  Ten minutes after arriving I knew most everyone's name (including people that weren't playing) and already started trading stories and ideas back and forth.  Ryan Frahm, the host of the open mic, started things off with a band he puts together for this event...they kicked off into a rip roaring blues jam which set the mood for the whole night!  Most acts were blues based which didn't surprise me being so close to Chicago.  After a few acts, I got up and did my thing.  The crowd was very responsive to my non  blues based singer songwriter act....very attentive listeners.  They were probably more intrigued why some dude from Cincinnati stopped in their little town to play at a local open mic night...all I can say is.....I will be back.

The next day I headed to South Bend, IN...home of Notre Dame and other things I'm sure.  Being a tourist in town, you're never really aware of what place is going be your style...but I nailed it when I walked into the Fiddler's Hearth.  It's an Irish style pub with an amazing beer selection.  Once again....good wholesome people...you got to love the midwest.  They have a rather famous open mic here during the week that is so popular you have to sign up via email several days before.  Luckily I was prepared and contacted them a week prior and I got the opening slot.  I was coming down with a pretty bad cold that took me out of the game of life for the next couple of days but was able to get through my twenty minute set (I'm sure not everything was pretty) thanks to my medication....Jameson on the rocks.  It felt good to get on stage in front of this packed house and share my songs.  You could tell most were there for the music because there wasn't a whole lot of talking...just listening.  I love that type of crowd.

Here is a recording from that night of one of my newest songs:
